The story of Run Amok
Run Amok, in one form or another, has been around for about 4 years. Dave and Jake went to school together in Brisbane and Hayden and Chris grew up in Mackay in North Queensland. Mr Box and Mr Thomas had several incarnations of their original band, which was at different times called Jake's Mum and Run Amuck. This continued on for some time and through many lineup changes, eventually they found themselves bassless in early 2004. Having lived in Brisbane for a couple of years and had his last band go down the toilet through lack of organising a year and a half earlier, Chris was itching for a new band to seriously get into and start playing again. Despite severely different musical backgrounds, a common love of punk rock united the group and they got out there and started playing again under the slightly altered name Run Amok. This continued for about six months until drummer Dave Stapylton announced that he was leaving the band, putting the band once again at a loose end for a rhythm section.
It was then that Hayden, who had formerly played drums in loss4words (of loss4words.com fame) stuck up his hand and volunteered for the position. No-one could've predicted how well this would work. With the experienced rhythm section of Chris and Hayden and the proven on-stage and on-paper chemistry of Jake and Dave, the band finally clicked, and with a haul of new songs, some new recordings, and a pantsload of determination and energy, they hit the scene again to what can only be described as unbridled success.
So here you have it - the end result of years of experience and the far-from-wasted youths of four dedicated musicians. The diverse backgrounds of the members makes for a unique combination. Dave and Chris both sung in choirs in primary school. Hayden's background
as a guitarist and singer puts him far ahead of the average drummer in terms of understanding a song, and also plays nintendo. He fronted a band called Skint for two years. Jake is completely self-taught and self-styled, having drawn influence from many bands and
genres of music, giving him his own personal take on songwriting, while Chris started musical training at the age of 5 with singing and piano, but branched out to trumpet, turntables, drums, guitar, bass, played trombone in a jazz/swing band for 5 years, and fronted loss4words on guitar for two. When you put all this together in the one jam room, you get an explosive sound with passion, fire, energy and integrity.
The End. Well, sort of. I'd say it's just the beginning. |
